duckHello Internets

Posted in Web Design, Web sites by Alyssa Tucker on the June 12th, 2008

It’s been too long since I’ve updated this thing and I apologize. I’ve just felt that I haven’t had too much of importance to say that hasn’t already been said on other websites. It’s also been strange since I made a transition from full time student to full time employee, so remembering to update a blog hasn’t been my top priority. I know it’s been almost a year since that transition first started but that’s how it started. Lately after a work day, all I want to do is curl up with my controller and play GTA4.

The web design company I am at is now expanding. For the past six months or so it’s just been the four of us in this office but we added a new administrative assistant and a PHP programmer. It still has that small family type feel, that we all like.

I’m slowly starting a new project along with a few of my friends. Not giving too much away just yet but it will be a website where we cover our nerdy interests. We’ve started to build our reputation even before it’s launch by making connections, interviewing musicians and covering events. Now to only put it all together in one handy site.

Speaking of interviews, I interviewed the bassist of The Birthday Massacre a couple of weeks ago. I posted it on TurkeyWithSound.com since my little Turkey was a part of the interview. Go check it out or at least check out the site.

Monday, November 26th is Blue Beanie Day. Remember to wear a blue beanie that day to show your support for web standards and accessibility.

Participate even more by uploading a photo of yourself to the Blue Beanie group on Flickr. And join the Facebook group as well. They also suggest to change all of your default profile pictures to a picture of you wearing a blue beanie.

duckSocial Network Song

I greatly miss watching “The Show With Ze Frank” since it hit it’s completion in March of this year but there are still wonderful things constantly being produced by Ze. I think his newest song “A Social Network For Two” is a funny reflection about dating in today’s online world.

duckBands Embrace Type

Posted in Typography by Alyssa Tucker on the October 2nd, 2007

I love it when I can enjoy a band on many different levels including music, style, appearance, and even typography. While there have been many bands that have been noted for the type used in their logo or album art, I am only here to talk about one that I’ve noticed more recently. I’ve been listening to The Birthday Massacre a lot more lately and when I saw them a couple weeks ago again, I found myself taking the time to really look at their logo while enjoying their performance. It’s fun and playful and each letter has it’s own unique place.

I could probably get into a never-ending conversation about typography used in the music industry. It’s everywhere and it’s difficult for me to sit here and pick each instance of type that impresses me. Tell me about any instances where you really enjoy the typography used in music or elsewhere.
